About Peranakan Museum

Being the National Heritage Board’s latest addition, the 4005 sqm Peranakan Museum is a boutique museum that has a comprehensive and magnificent collection of artefacts and wares, including the world’s best Nonya porcelain. The museum houses ten distinctive galleries that allow visitors to explore the main themes (food and feasting, origins, religion, public life, wedding rituals etc) of the Peranakan life. 95 per cent of the items that are kept in the Peranakan Museum come from the wealthy Peranakan families’ heirlooms or private collections. A highlight of the museum would be the wedding bed that once belonged to Mrs Quah Hong Chian of Penang, the same bed where the first 7 children of hers were delivered.
At the Peranakan Museum, visitors can also expect exclusive Perankan exhibitions showcasing the Peranakan culture from their cuisine, to nonya ware and to their clothing. Coming up this December, there will be a special exhibition called Baba bling that will showcase a collection of 400 breathtaking pieces of jewellery mostly from local homes.
The museum offers a Southeast Asian-wide view of the rich culture and heritage of the Peranakans and also has educational interactives for the younger visitors. Encapsulating the evolving rich peranakan culture and the world of their communities, the Peranakan museum have so much to unveil in its beautiful, unique and elegant setting.
In the museum, there are two museum shops that puts exclusive Peranakan merchandise on sale and near the museum, there is a Peranakan restaurant for visitors to give their taste buds a treat and enjoy the delectable and delicious Peranakan cuisine to complete their museum experience.
