About National Museum of Singapore

Tired of going through those boring museums again? The National Museum of Singapore is definitely the place to visit when you are in Singapore as it promises you an unforgettable and enjoyable experience.

This museum is Singapore’s oldest museum, with a rich history dating back to 1887, where it was commenced as a double entity. It was both the Raffles Library and Museum at that time. Bringing the old and new together in one place, this elegant structure was constructed with the help of glass and metal. It is also the biggest museum in Singapore standing at 18,400 square metres after its redevelopment in 2003 and has since won various awards.

Despite being the oldest museum, it is still able to attract the younger generations through its string of festivals and events throughout the year. It gives visitors a different experience as its Singapore History and Living Galleries adopt new and various ways to present the history and culture of Singapore.

Being a cultural and architectural icon, festivals and events are hosted all year round. Furthermore, the breath-taking art installations, performances and film screenings make it a must visit if you want to enjoy understanding Singapore’s history and culture through visual senses. The programmes that the museum provides are definitely different from the usual walking through the dull exhibitions and the examining of precious artefacts. They are instead well supported by many facilities and services.

The National Museum of Singapore is highly recommended for visitors who want a unique experience when learning the rich history and culture of Singapore.
